Remember, those other women may be living "lavishly", but by choosing to go back to work, they're also sending the message to their children that they value material wants over spending time with their own kids.

God entrusted these babies to our care and we should do our very best by them. My kids know full well that we can't afford to buy every little thing that catches our fancy, but they also know that Mom is *always* here and available and looking out for them, and they frequently remark that they feel sorry for any children they know whose moms "have to work." My daughter always says it's "so sad."

Life brings on unexpected circumstances and I am one of those moms who has a 'sad' life because I HAVE to work. And YES, I HAVE to work. Without my paycheck we wouldn't even make it paycheck to paycheck. And guess what? I have NO credit card debt, I rent a home with a payment much lower than most people's mortgages and yes, I still HAVE to work. I think your comment was a little out there for this day in age assuming that moms who work live lavishly and that we treasure our jobs more than our children and that we are not *there* for our children. If living lavishly is spending more than 40 a week on groceries then I guess I am doing it but I know my children are eating healthy food and not ramen noodles and grilled cheese...can we say fat and sodium? You have some very good ideas but making stereotypical comments like that may make you lose some readers. You may want to think about that before you decide to insult a good portion of the country. Someone (I) could bash you for your lifestyle but most of us are not that judgemental - to each their own and we keep our personal opinions to ourselves.Rosannahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04006159702426022411noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2189224970709560449.post-19070603278398599962007-06-26T23:44:00.000-04:002007-06-26T23:44:00.000-04:00mamasimpson, you hang in there! Please keep on posting... I have been very down lately...being a stay at home mom and living very budget minded. Most women I know have gone back to work, are driving fancy new vehicles, and living what seems like lavish lives. Meanwhile I question my lot in life. Through prayer and just finding like minded individuals (even if they are online) has renewed my strength and gusto. I do so many of the same things you do... including make fabulous mixes from scratch, but I have learned some fantastic stuff, too. Thanks again... I can't wait to start planning for the holidays!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2189224970709560449.post-72700553485814221622007-06-24T14:11:00.000-04:002007-06-24T14:11:00.000-04:00Christy, you're making me hungry... I know that can be so hard and you deserve many kudos for your efforts! :)

Christmas has unfortunately lost much of its true meaning for way too many folks. One of the things I love about preparing "year-round" for it, is I actually have things done in time to really enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas and help make sure our family stays focused on Jesus, God, and all our real blessings - which have nothing to do with material gifts!Just Me, Jennihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09296746203683786749noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2189224970709560449.post-44106872391934958952007-06-24T11:58:00.000-04:002007-06-24T11:58:00.000-04:00I meant store-bought. We seem to forget that at times.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2189224970709560449.post-86946026413871488542007-06-24T11:56:00.000-04:002007-06-24T11:56:00.000-04:00I so love your creativity and appreciate you shari...I so love your creativity and appreciate you sharing your wisdom. I grew up with my mother who was a single parent and was not home much (she needed to work) and therefore when she was home she really wasn't very available to her children. I know she had it very tough & I love her for all of that. Yet, it partly reflects who I am today & that I have grown up not knowing very much about being a homemaker. I am in my 40's and still learning, lol.

This Christmas will be our most challenging too. We are working very hard to be out of debt soon, so there will be no money really for Christmas. But I am up to the challenge & have to remind myself that the thought & creativity I put into my gifts will far surpass anything star-bought. Thank you.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2189224970709560449.post-17684148449982145742007-06-22T14:32:00.000-04:002007-06-22T14:32:00.000-04:00My Christmas budget this year will the smallest it...My Christmas budget this year will the smallest it has ever been but I am actually looking forward to being creative with it. I have put a limit on how much to spend on people and our children. I am always open to new ideas for Christmas. One thing I know is that I will be giving lots of breads this year. I love to bake and make special loaves.

ChristyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
